A Reputation for Better Treatment
St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the world’s largest research hospital dedicated to pediatric funding cures for pediatric diseases, aimed to elevate its share of voice and reputation to support the CEO’s clinical care and research reputation against its peers. To meet the organization’s goals, we built a strategic communications plan to support key initiatives in the CEO’s five-year strategic plan and overall brand and reputation strategies.
Strengthened Share of Voice: These strategies significantly strengthened St. Jude’s science and research reputation. In just one year, St. Jude’s science and research share of voice tripled from 5.7% to 15.4% among peer institutions.
Expanded Reach: Our proactive earned and digital strategies led to a measurable increase in reach in external channels. We generated over 250 media stories, a 120% increase in social media followers, and expanded to 12 social channels.
Public Relations, Boosted
Team Transformation: We directed the team to restructure into an enterprise communications department by setting clear outreach goals to develop relationships with senior leaders and uncover communications and marketing opportunities.
Thought Leadership: We capitalized on trending science stories (flu, COVID-19, gene therapy, cancer) by leveraging internal experts. Through proactive thought leadership strategies and reactive story jacking, we raised the profile of St. Jude's scientific and clinical expertise on media and digital channels.
Data-Driven Strategy: The strategic plan was informed by primary and secondary research to ensure messaging and strategies would resonate with target audiences and to determine key performance indicators and potential risks.
Public-Private Partnerships: We developed strategic communications plans to elevate the launch of partnerships with top organizations including Microsoft, World Health Organization, DNAnexus, Dana Farner, and Mustang Bio.
